Caroline Manock

Caroline (Walker) Manock 98 of Clinton, Illinois passed away peacefully at her residence 7:30 AM, March 4, 2016.

 

A celebration of life for Caroline will be 11 AM  Saturday, March, 19, 2016 at the Clinton Presbyterian Church, Clinton, Il. with Rev. Benjamin Keller and Rev. Samantha Keller officiating. Graveside service will follow at 3 PM at Elmwood Cemetery, Elmwood, Il. Visitation will be 4 – 6 PM Friday, March 18, 2016 at the church and also 9 – 11 AM, Saturday at the church. Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, Il. is in charge of arrangements.

 

Memorials may be directed to the Clinton Presbyterian Church Elevator Building Fund or the Clinton YMCA.

 

Caroline was born on March 16, 1917 in Clinton, Il., the daughter of Ruth (Kent) and Carle Capron  Walker. She was united in marriage to John Russell Manock of Elmwood, Il., on February 5, 1944 at 311 North Center St., Clinton, Il. He passed away February 12, 1994.

 

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Ruth Tullis (Steve), Carson City, Nevada, Sister-in-Law, Patricia Walker, Machesney Park, Il., Several Nieces, Nephews, Great and Great-Great Nieces and Nephews and some cousins.

 

She was preceded in death by her Parents, Sisters, Sarah Elizabeth Cannady, Ruth Peverly and Brother, Robert Kent Walker.

 

Caroline attended Barngrover Elementary School (Harp Township, one room school), Clinton Community High School and Millikin University. At Millikin she studied fine arts and concert piano. After high school she worked at the Vespasian Warner Library under her Aunt Lillian Kent. After Millikin she worked as a secretary-accountant for her father’s farm management business. Her favorite job was a Bailey and Himes Sporting Goods in Champaign. She then married John, who farmed near Elmwood and later Laura, Il. In 1955 they moved to Clinton to farm the Walker Centennial farm. Her love of Horticulture continued to be expressed in farming and gardening.

 

All of Caroline’s activities and interests were for a lifetime: Home Bureau and Homemakers Extension, Rural Youth, 4-H, Clinton Presbyterian Church (UPW and Miriam Circle, Lunch Bunch, Sunday School, Choir), and music (Harmonica in high school, Piano accompanist for band soloists, pianist for choirs and church and singing in the choir). Her artistic skills were expressed in sketching, painting, sewing, stitchery, crocheting, crafts and quilting. She loved travel, journaling and scrapbooking on every trip. She enjoyed genealogy and kept many family books.

 

Caroline was an  a amazing farm wife, homemaker and mother. She is archived in the Oral History Project about Farm Wives in Illinois at the Abraham Lincoln Library. She was involved in every aspect of farming for over 50 years. She was also a partner with a niece in the Oregon ranch that her father homesteaded in the early 1900’s. She with her caring, optimistic personality and outlook on life will be missed by so many
