Eugene Hook

Eugene “Hook” Mandrell, 83, of Clinton, passed away 7:22 p.m. Friday (March 11, 2016) at his family home.

A service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with Phil Yakey officiating. Burial will follow at Long Point Cemetery, Wapella, with military honors. Visitation will be  from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Wapella Christian Church or Little Galilee Christian Assembly.

Hook was born Sept. 4, 1932, in DeWitt County, the son of Charles and Esther Malone Mandrell. He married Deanna Bane on June 8, 1958, in Ellsworth.

Survivors include his wife, Deanna Mandrell, Clinton; daughters, Debra Shull, Clinton, and Karen Alexander, Clinton; three grandsons, Chad (Heather) Whitlock, Eric (Jamie) Whitlock and Ryan (Kaysi) Whitlock, all of Clinton; 10 great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Charles (Elaine) Mandrell, Coal Valley; Carl (Bonnie) Mandrell, Clinton; Richard (Vanessa) Mandrell, Clinton; Lucretia Powless, Clinton; and Ada Clifton, Clarksville, Ark.

Hook was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lloyd, James and Dorran; and sisters, Cliffia Maychrzak and Ruth Wright.

Hook was a member of the Wapella Christian Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1951 to 1953. He had retired from Revere Copper & Brass Inc., Clinton, after 37 years of service. Hook also served on the DeWitt County Board for 10 years. He was an avid coon hunter and Cubs fan.
