Sharon G. Donnan of Lane

Sharon G. Donnan, 77, of Lane, died at 7:45 a.m. Monday (Feb. 3, 2014) at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

His service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Lane Christian Church. Jim Kilson will officiate. Interment will be at Lisenby Cemetery, Lane. A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton.

Memorials may be made to Lane Christian Church.

Sharon was born Dec. 28, 1936, in Clinton, to Owen and Clarice Reynolds Donnan. He married Beverly M. West on Aug. 16, 1957, in Clinton.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly M. Donnan, Lane; children, Chris (Nancy) Donnan, Clinton, and Valerie (Mark) Plunkett, Petersburg; five granddaughters, Jill (Andrew) Newberg, Clinton; Ashley Plunkett, Springfield; Melissa (Bill) Reidy, Normal; Samantha (Matt) Whitehurst, Athens; and Shelby Plunkett, Los Angeles, Calif.; four great-grandchildren, Logan and Evan Newberg and Marlie and Dayton Whitehurst; one sister, Lora Lee Oliva, Dade City, Fla.; and one brother, Owen (Yvonne) Brimmer, Umatilla, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents and half sister, Kathy Donnan.

Sharon was a member of Lane Christian Church. He owned and operated Hallsville Elevator and was in the grain elevator business for 42 years.

He planted and sold Christmas trees, including Christmas wreaths and roping. The last several years he and Andy Hedrick combined their talents and sold trees, wreaths and roping to many families each year.

He was a member of the Fantastic 5, who helped build the Lane Christian Church. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing trips to Canada. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his five granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
