Roy W. Riegel of Clinton

Roy W. “Bubby” Riegel Jr., 95, Clinton, passed away at 4 p.m. Sunday (Dec., 15, 2013) at Liberty Village, Clinton.

Roy was born Nov. 4, 1918, in Bowling Green, Mo., a son of Roy W. and Nellie B. Griffith Riegel Sr. He married Marie F. Lugering on Nov. 4, 1941, in Palmyra, Mo. She survives.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Melvin R. (Linda Sue) Riegel and Gary J. (Trudi) Riegel, both of Clinton, and Michael B. (Susan) Riegel, Granite Bay, Calif.; three daughters, Pat D. (Lance) Reece, Clinton; Sandi K. Wilson, Fairfield, Iowa; and Debi M. (Craig) Patrick, Bloomington; three sisters; two brothers; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, two brothers and three sisters.

He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and American Legion, all of Clinton.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed golfing at Clinton Country Club. He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan, and he enjoyed playing croquet with his family. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was in farm sales for many years with Lindsey Brothers Co. where he was recognized for his superior sales and service on many occasions.

His memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Catholic Church, Clinton, with the Rev. James P. Henning, OFM Conv., officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the service Wednesday at the church. Military funeral honors will be accorded.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will be at a later date in Palmyra, Mo.

Memorials may be made to St. John’s Catholic Church, Clinton. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home, Bloomington, is assisting the family with arrangements.
