Evelyn Laura Gatchel, 92, of Monticello, passed away at 11:30 a.m., December 18, 2013 at the Kirby Medical Center, Monticello.

Evelyn was born on August 15, 1921 in Campbellsville, KY, the daughter of Mark Turner and Mary (Whited) Colvin. She married Bernie Erwin Gatchel on February 9, 1947 in Monticello. He passed away September 14, 2002.

Survivors include her son; Gregory (Elizabeth) Gatchel of Ivesdale, IL and a sister; Betty Keith of Danville, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers (William Colvin, Sr. and George Colvin), and a sister (Elizabeth Winder).

Evelyn retired from General Cable Corporation in Monticello. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Monticello and the Young at Heart. She loved gardening, volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program, and enjoyed meeting people and spending time with her friends.     

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 21, 2013, at the Monticello Township Cemetery with the Rev. Bryan Morrow officiating. Mackey-Wright Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Christian Church of Monticello or an organization of the Donor’s Choice.
