Jeffrey Jess Cobstill of Argenta

Jeffrey Jess Cobstill, 67, of Argenta, IL passed away at 10:53 p.m. on Wednesday (Dec. 11, 2013) at Presence Covenant Medical Center, Urbana, IL.

 

A service to celebrate Jeff’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday (Dec. 20, 2013) at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta. The family requests casual attire for Jeff’s services. Memorial contributions may be directed to the UW Medical Foundation or American Diabetes Association.

 

Jeff was born on August 14, 1946 in Harvey, IL, the son of Grady Ray and Amelia Louise (Badger) Cobstill. He was a United States Navy veteran. Jeff retired from the State of Illinois after 30+ years of service as the chief security officer for Adolph Meyer Mental Health Center, Decatur, IL and McFarland Mental Health Center, Springfield, IL. He had previously worked as a letter carrier for the USPS, ambulance driver in Cocoa, FL, funeral assistant for J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home, volunteer EMT/fireman in Argenta, independent courier and the Dewitt County Probation Department. Jeff was a member of the Cherokee Nation, his ancestors walked the Trail of Tears. He was a member of Tawaskote Longrifles and the Rogers Rangers. Jeff was a lifetime member of both the NRA and National Muzzleloaders Association. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and love to rendezvous. Jeff also taught hunting safety classes. He married Marcella Kay Mason on June 18, 1964.

 

Jeff is survived by his wife: Marcella Kay Cobstill of Argenta, IL; children: Ian-Lee D. Cobstill and his wife Quenna of Argenta, IL, Corrine K. Sharp and her husband Darren of Long Creek, IL, Malissa A. Munsterman and her husband Terry of Argenta, IL; sisters: Kathy Baggett and her husband Bob of Decatur, IL, Becky Hardesty and her husband Scot of Kennesaw, GA; brother: Dave Cobstill and his wife Carrie of Downs, IL; grandchildren: Timothy Cobstill, Amanda Cobstill, Emily Munsterman, Hanna Munsterman; great granddaughter: Gabrielle Stewart; several beloved nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister: Jeanne Cobstill.
