Douglas L. Hamilton, 65, of Oreana, passed away at 5:35 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013 in his home with his family by his side.

He was born April 14, 1948 in Mattoon, the son of Mary Hamilton. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was previously employed with Caterpillar retiring with over thirty-five years of service. He was a member of the VFW and UAW Local #751. He loved construction and building, gardening, working with his hands, and learning something new every day. He married Sharon Daniels December 24, 1966. They shared over forty-six years together.

He leaves behind his wife Sharon, children Dawn Johnson and husband Randy of Oreana, Robin Biggs and husband Kyle of Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania, and Bobby Hamilton and wife Michelle of Champaign, grandchildren Katie, Danielle, Jennifer, Breanna, Molly, Connor, Evan, and Ethan, great-grandson Caiden, brother Warren Farrier and wife Donna of Mattoon, and sisters Sue Ann Sandlin of Florida and Rita Erxleben and husband Rick of Arizona.

He was reunited in Heaven with his grandmother Mary Alice Hamilton, mother Mary Hamilton, and brother Michael Farrier.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Fulbright, Dr. Esparaz, Dr. Collins, and the nurses and staff with DMH Hospice and the VA Outpatient Clinic for all of their loving care.

Celebration of Doug’s life will be 3 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be for two hours prior to the services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
