Margaret Simmons, 81, of Leroy, passed away at 10:45 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 8, 2015) at her residence.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, LeRoy. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, LeRoy. Memorial donations may be made to LeRoy Emergency Ambulance Service.

Margaret was born Jan. 27, 1934, to Michael and Margaret Souther Cherry. She married Gene A. Simmons on Oct. 2, 1953, in Key West, Fla. He preceded in death in December 2012.

Surviving are one son, Dennis Simmons, Ellsworth; grandchildren, Bradley W. Simmons, Michael F. (Shannon Weed) Simmons, Crystal J. (Jason Anderson) Simmons and Debbie M. (Bryan) Byrd; great-grandchildren, Bradley, Dalton, Devin, Destiney, Emmitt, Maggie, Danielle, Dawson, Darcy, Anna, Daphnie, Gabi and Rachel; great-great-grandchildren, Talan and Konner; daughter-in-law, Tina M. Simmons; sisters, Mary (Robert) Egan and Annie Cherry; brother, Joseph (Jan Walker) Cherry; nephew and niece who Gene and Margaret raised for several years, Joey (Sara) Cherry and Chrissy (Kevin) Furst.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers and sisters, Michael, James, Irene, Mildred, Harold, Charles, Arthur, William, Ann Marie, Robert, Dorothy, Lawrence and Thomas. 

Margaret worked at Owens Nursery for around 10 years. She loved crafts, doing her own crocheting and knitting.

She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and devoted friend who will be deeply missed.
