Arnold M. Tammen of Farmer City

FARMER CITY — Arnold M. Tammen, 90, Farmer City, formerly of Fairbury and rural Paxton, died at 7:30 p.m. Friday (Oct. 21, 2011) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McDowell Methodist Church, 18156 E 1400 North Road, Pontiac, with the Rev. Donna Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Avoca Cemetery, Fairbury. Baier Family Funeral Services, Paxton, is handling arrangements. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home in Paxton.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Arnold was born July 11, 1921, at Fulda, Minn., the son of Henry and Margaret Schmidt Tammen. He married Loyce Barrett on Nov. 14, 1948, at Chenoa.

He is survived by three sons, David Tammen and Duane (Diane) Tammen, both of Leesville, S.C.; and Dale (Gina) Tammen, Mansfield; one daughter, Rita (John) Collura, East Long Meadow, Mass.; and one brother, John Tammen, rural Gridley; three grandchildren, Theresa Collura, Michael Collura and Melissa (Paul) Gensic; and one great-grandson, Jacob Gensic.

Arnold was preceded in death by his parents and 12 brothers and sisters.

Arnold grew up in Flanagan. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a farmer and union construction worker. He later worked as the custodian at Ludlow Grade School. He was a member of the Ludlow American Legion. He loved working in his woodworking shop, playing cards and fishing with his friend, Charlie.
