Alva Forrest Kimler of Argenta

Alva Forrest Kimler, 85, Argenta, died at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 14, 2013) at Heartland Health Care Center, Decatur.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Calvert Funeral Home, Argenta, with the Rev. Kate Pyle officiating. The family requests casual attire. Interment will be at Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, with military honors.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Calvert Funeral Home, Argenta. Memorials may be made to Prairie River Historical Society, Argenta Prairie Park, Argenta-Oreana Public Library or Argenta Presbyterian Church.

He was born April 26, 1928, in Glenavon, son of Ben Kimler and Mae Moulden. He married June Colgate on Dec. 28, 1952, in Urbana. She passed away Feb. 23, 1992.

Surviving are sons, Richard (Donna Lanter) Kimler and Philip (Lorie Agee) Kimler, both of Argenta; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Kimler was a retired Argenta-Oreana High School teacher. He was a former scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 31 in Argenta. He was a member of the Argenta Presbyterian Church and also served as a deacon, elder and trustee. He also was a member of American Legion Craig Reed Post 1181 in Cisco and a U.S. Army veteran.  

He was a treasurer and a trustee of Argenta-Oreana Public Library. Mr. Kimler was a charter member, treasurer and on the board of directors for the Prairie River Historical Society.
