Mary Francis (Quinn) Pankau, 79, of Monticello died at 2:51 p.m., Wednesday (April 10, 2013) at Carle Hospital.
Funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 15, 2013 at St. Philomena Catholic Church, 1301 N. Market St, Monticello with Fr. Bruce Lopez officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, 215 E. Washington St., Monticello, with a Rosary service at 1:45 p.m. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Champaign.
Mary was born December 11, 1933 in Longview, Illinois a daughter of Paul J. and Inez Wade Quinn. She married Dr. Joseph W. Pankau on December 28, 1957 in Bongard, IL. He preceded her in death in 2005.
Survivors include Joseph M. Pankau of Monticello, IL, Theresa (Bob) Durbin of Hopkinsville, KY, Christina (Scott) Bailey of Monticello, IL, Paula (Eric) Westburg of Monticello, IL, and David S. (Jennifer) Pankau of Columbia, S.C., grandchildren Jessica Durbin, Jackie Durbin, Michael (Tara) Bailey, Patrick Bailey, Nicholas Bailey, Andrew Bailey, Matthew Westburg, Colleen Westburg, Cameron Pankau, and Devin Pankau, and great-grandchildren JD, Jax, and Leena Bailey. Also surviving are a sister Betty (Julius) Pankau of Savoy and a sister-in-law Doris Quinn of Tuscola. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and a nephew.
Mrs. Pankau graduated from Longview High School in 1951 and Parkland College, Champaign with honors and an Associate Degree in 1983. She was a member of the ETA Sigma Gamma Scholastic Honor Society.
Her working career was focused in finance. She was employed 18 years at Mercy Hospital (Presence Covenant Medical Center, Urbana). She was also employed by Advanced Wayne Cain and Sons Roofing and Sheet Metal Co., Inc. for over 20 years.
Her main hobbies included attending the sports activities of her grandchildren. She was a lifelong fan of the University of Illinois football and basketball teams and the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. She cherished spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the St. Philomena Catholic Church in Monticello.
