Eula Mae Metzger of Oreana

Eula Mae Metzger, 83, of Oreana, IL passed away on Saturday (Aug. 3, 2013) in Hickory Point Christian Village.

A service to celebrate Eula Mae’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday (Aug. 6, 2013) at Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Moweaqua, IL. Memorial contributions may be directed to Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Mrs. Metzger was born on March 23, 1930 in the home of her grandparents Walter and Deborah Humphrey in Moweaqua, IL. She was the daughter of Wayne Elliott and Ruth May (Humphrey) Hays. She graduated from Moweaqua High School Class of 1947 and later attended Brown’s Business College in Decatur, IL. She married Arnold John Metzger on August 15, 1962 in St. James Catholic Church, Decatur, IL. Eula Mae worked for 20 years at A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company in Decatur, IL. She was a former member of First Baptist Church, Moweaqua, IL where she was a member of the choir, and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She is a current member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Decatur, IL. She was Past President and active member for 40 years of Decatur Christian Woman’s Club. Eula Mae held many offices in this organization, including being Decorating Chairman for 20 years, making individual table decorations as well as centerpieces with her committee for 150 or more ladies each month. Her husband, Arnold, also spent many hours helping with these projects. She was Past President and member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Served many years as Room Mother for Mike’s class and helped with Fun Fairs and other activities in the Argenta/Oreana School. She was Past President and member of Oreana Home Extension and later Mt. Zion Unit of Home and Community Education. She also served as a Past President of Macon County Home and Community Education. She was a charter member of the A.E. Staley Women’s Club and a member of Tacusah Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Kiwanianne Club of Decatur, IL. She was an active member of 2 Bunco clubs in Oreana.

Eula Mae loved crafts, gardening, spending time with her son and daughter-in-law and especially with the light of her life, her grandson, Wade. She enjoyed traveling, especially day trips. Eula Mae was known for the beautiful packages she wrapped, especially for birthdays and Christmas. She was a wonderful example of a loving wife, mother and a true Christian.

Surviving are her husband: Arnold John Metzger of Oreana, IL; son: Michael John Metzger and his wife Natalie of Decatur, IL; grandson: Wade Michael Metzger of Decatur, IL; sister: Von Gregory of Moweaqua, IL; 10 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister-in-law: James and Rosemary Hays and her brother-in-law: Mark Gregory.
