Robert Russell Postlewait of Bement

Robert Russell “Bob” Postlewait, 82 of Bement, IL. passed away at 7:42 P.M. on Friday, August 9, 2013, at his residence in Bement, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at the Bement United Methodist Church, 249 N. Piatt St., Bement, IL., The Rev. E. Paul Unger will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until time of services on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at the Bement Township Cemetery, Bement, IL. with Masonic Graveside Prayer by the Bement Masonic Lodge #365 A. F. & A.M. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. also at the Bement United Methodist Church, Bement, IL. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Bement Foundation, Bement United Methodist Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Bob was born on September 14, 1930 in Decatur, IL. a son of Russell H. and Mae McPherson Postlewait. He married Martha Turney on November 19, 1949, in Bement, IL. and she survives of Bement, IL. Survivng children include; Stephen (Mary Sue) Postlewait of Bement, IL., Jane (John) Corradetti of New Lenox, IL., and Sam (Sue) Postlewait of Mt. Zion, IL. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren; Robert (Laura) and Russell Postlewait, John Robert, Kathryn, and Carolyn Corradetti, Jamie, Jason, and Jared Postlewait, and a great grandson, Everett Postlewait. Also survivng is a sister; Jane Ellen (Scott) Wilkinson of San Antonio, TX., as well as many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister; Nancy Mae Coffee.

Bob was a life-long resident of Bement. He graduated from Bement High School in 1948 and attended Milikin University. He farmed for over 50 years in the community. He served on the Bement School Board and was chairman of the Bement Foundation since its inception in 1997. He was a Bement Township trustee and also served 25 years as a commissioner for the Lake Fork Special Drainage District.

Bob was a lifetime member of the Bement United Methodist Church and served on numerous committees. He was a 50 + year member of the Bement Masonic Lodge # 365 A.F. & A.M., Ansar Shrine, Royal Arch Masons, and the Springfield Consistory. Bob dearly loved spending time with his family, his friends and on the farm.
